Pre-conference East Tour

10 - 5 pm PRE CONFERENCE TOUR – EAST OF SOUTH BEND
Meet at the Holiday Inn Lobby – downtown South Bend - Check in for this tour begins at 9 a.m. Participants will drive their own autos in this auto caravan tour.  Maps and a schedule will be provided.
Goshen: Enjoy historical Main Street, the Goshen Historical Society featuring an exhibit on Indiana Auto Heritage, visit the Police Booth which is undergoing restoration, visit the restored Hattle Hotel, and have lunch on Main Street (lunch in not included in the price of the tour).
Old Bag Factory – this Goshen destination is filled with history and a variety of unusual shops and art galleries. The metal through-truss bridge is just across the street.
Elkhart –On to the Elkhart RV Hall of Fame and Museum. Tour the museum and attend a talk to learn about the history of Recreational Vehicles and the RV Capital of the World!
Mishawaka - Drive to Mishawaka - Riverfront Park – a gorgeous view of the city from the river!
Last Stop: Yum! Enjoy a sundae at the historic Bonnie Doon Drive In (included in tour)

Welcome Event featuring the Alice Ramsey Centennial Tour and the Dan Heath Band!

9:00 am Vendor, State Chapter Displays and General Book Room Set Up - Holiday Inn Ballroom – 6th Floor
Noon CONFERENCE REGISTRAION OPENS AT NOON – Holiday Inn Downtown - Ballroom – 6th floor
Noon - 5 pm Book Room Open at the Holiday Inn.
Other activities for guests: Talk a walking tour (or ride your bike) of the East Race – pick up brochure at registration area. Visit: the National College Football Hall of Fame – Corner of Washington and St. Joseph Streets, or the Kids’ Health Works Museum at Jefferson & Michigan Streets. Enjoy food and coffee at South Bend Chocolate Café or many other great eating venues in downtown South Bend.
1:00 - 4:00 pm LHA Board of Director’s Meeting - Holiday Inn – Lower Level – across from restaurant/lounge.
5:00 - 9:00 pm WELCOMING EVENT at the Century Center’s Great Hall on the Lincoln Highway at St. Joseph and Washington Streets
5:00 pm Musical Entertainment by Dan Heath Band – request your favorite tune! Bar opens at 5:00. Enjoy a variety of food stations at 6:00 p.m.
6:45 pm 6:45 Welcome and Overview with instructions for Wednesday Bus Tour to Indy ALICE RAMSEY CENTENNIAL TOUR - Remarks by Rich Anderson and Alice Ramsey Centennial Tour. Meet the crew making the coast to coast tour. See the restored 1909 Maxwell! Antique Studebakers made in South Bend will be on display! Enjoy the setting on the beautiful St. Joseph River.

7:45 -8:00 am DEPART FOR INDY – DIXIE HIGHWAY -CARL FISHER TOUR
Load Charter Buses at Holiday Inn Downtown.

Depart for Indy via Dixie Highway – US 31, IN 25, IN 29, US 421

Visit Carl Fisher Mausoleum at Crown Hill Cemetery

Motor past the Stutz Buildings and auto corridor to the Anthenaeum – site of the birth of the LHA – the Carl Fisher and James Allison’s dinner with Indiana auto manufacturers and suppliers.

Lunch and Program at the Athenaeum (now the Rathskeller Restaurant)
Lunch program includes professional actor, Jeff Kuehl, playing the part of Carl G. Fisher, remarks by Indianapolis Motor Speedway Historian, Donald Davidson, and remarks by Turner Woodard, present owner of the Stutz Motor Company property. Marsh Davis, President, Historic Landmarks Foundation, will be the Master of Ceremonies.

Drive to Cold Spring Road (Millionaire Row) to Marian College - the bus will drive around the campus loop for a brief tour of the homes built by Carl Fisher, James Allison and Frank Wheeler of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway fame. Photo opportunities and a brief historical presentation by Deborah Lawrence, Special Assistant to the President for Community Engagement.

5:00 pm Bus departs for South Bend via the famous Meridian Drive - Light supper on bus.

8:30 - 9:15 am Session: Lighting the Lincoln Highway by Amy Herdman Minnick, South Bend Preservation Commission, highlighting history of the Cutter Light Company.
9:30 - 10:15 am Touring the Lincoln Highway – this session is sponsored by the Illinois Lincoln Highway Coalition and will feature insights from tourism professionals and remarks by author Brian Butko on his newly released book, The Lincoln Highway Companion
10:15-10:30 am Break
10:30-11:45 am Lincoln Highway Legends – this session features Henry Bourne Joy IV providing insights into the life of Henry Joy, and Chrissy Kozey, Education Manager, Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens of Akron, Ohio, highlighting Frank Seiberling’s devotion to the Lincoln Highway and the auto industry.
